Making an impact for generations of lost, lonely and unloved animals
We were thrilled to be awarded the contract to rebuild Battersea’s kennels, many of them antiquated and impossible to heat or clean properly.
Our work included the creation of 56 new intake kennels, 12 exercise paddocks, a new intake building for strays and ‘gift’ dogs plus landscaping and facilities such as clinics and kitchens. Renewable technology was utilised including solar photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps and the installation of a wildflower meadow roof unified the intake kennels in a 165 metre green ribbon.
The building was officially opened with much pomp and ceremony by HRH The Queen and attended by the delivery team and ambassadors including TV celebrity Amanda Holden and comedian Paul O’Grady.
The site was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and independently monitored throughout the project in five main areas: site appearance, team engagement with the community, care for the environment, provision of safety measures and care for our workforce. The Scheme reported that we had achieved “a seamless integration into the community.”
